Billy Ray's

The gig at Billy Ray's was a blast. Lots of new and old friends showed up to welcome us back to Roswell. Darin's older brother (and former P.Tail) Mark and his lovely wife Sonia even graced us with their presence. The highlight of the night was when Mark joined us onstage to play a few tunes. We had some fun playing a few old favorites like "I've Never Been to Spain" and "After Midnight". Darin and Mark's mom Sammye was in the house and she got to watch her two boys rip it up together. D's other brother Kyrt (another guitar genius) was absent and sorely missed.
The top photo shows the calm before the storm as Darin chills in his luxury suite before the gig. The next photo shows our drummer Jon relaxing between sets. Jon wins the MVP award for this gig because his crisp, powerful playing laid a perfect foundation for the music all night long. The next shot shows brother Darin and brother Mark after a set. The hotties in the next photo are Sammye and Nancy. And the last photo shows Mark accepting some love from the Roswell crowd as he leaves the stage.

The Road to Roswell

The band van has over 300,000 miles on it's odometer, but it still goes fast enough that we got a speeding ticket in Encino, on the way to Roswell.

64 Continental

On the way to Roswell we stopped by Darin's garage to check out the 1964 Lincoln Continental that he is restoring. Look at those suicide doors and that red leather interior. Watch for this car at some gig in the not-to-distant future.

Gigs This Week: Friday, Oct. 28

Last Saturday night local guitar hero Joe Gagen paid the P.Tails a visit at Brian O'Brien's. Here's a shot of Darin and Joe hanging out after the show.
This coming Friday night, the 28th of October, we'll be at Billy Ray's in Roswell. There's a $3 cover charge to get in and the show starts at 8:30 pm. This gig wil feature a musical visit from a special guest artist.
If you've been needing to get out of town for a weekend, a trip to Roswell is almost as exotic as a visit to the Vaseline Mines outside of Juarez, Mexico. Roswell is a tourists dream come true because the town is packed full of UFO museums, abandoned missle silos, cheap motels and fine dining establishments. Add in a night with the P.Tails at Billy Ray's and you've got the makings of a damn good weekend getaway.
Next Albuquerque gig: Friday and Saturday Nov. 11 & 12 at The Stone Face Tavern.

Last Night

Here are a few photos from last night at Brian's. As always, you can click on any of these pictures to see them full size in a new window. We'll be back at Brian O'Brien's tonight Saturday, Oct. 22. Brian's is on the southwest corner of Eubank and Menaul.
Next weekend we'll be in Roswell playing at Billy Ray's. Our semi-annual Roswell gigs are always some of the best shows of the year.

Gigs This Week: Friday Oct. 21 & Saturday Oct. 22

The P.Tails are going back to Brian O'Brien's this week: Friday and Saturday nights, October 21 and 22. No cover and the show starts at 9:30 pm. The Alibi has been advertising that we'll be at The District this weekend - that is definitely NOT the case! We are looking forward to playing The District again soon, but this weekend we are going to burn Brian's to the ground. This Blog is the final authority on P.Tails gigs, when in doubt, check here.
The Fall Crawl turned out to be a fun gig as usual. The weather was a little cold, but a huge crowd descended on downtown Albuquerque anyway. Alex Maryol's trio played before us and sounded great; it's cool how he uses the blues as a launch pad for his rock guitar stylings. After our set we hung out and listened to Mystic Vision, a fantastic local reggae band. Overall, the Fall Crawl was a great success - see you at the Spring Crawl!

Bluestime at the Fall Crawl!

The kind folks at the Alibi have given the P.Tails a great spot in the Fall Crawl line up: 10:00 pm at the Fifth Street outdoor stage. We only get to play one set, so don't be late! Also keep in mind that the P.Tails are just a small part of the Crawl. There will be local bands playing all over downtown Albuquerque. If you want to sample local live music, there's no better time and place than the Fall Crawl.
Next week the band returns to Brian O'Brien's to play Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 21 & 22. There's never a cover at Brian's and the first set starts at 9:30 pm. The P.Tails will be out of town for the last weekend of October (come see us at Billy Ray's in Roswell - always a great gig!) and first weekend of November.

Gigs This Week: Saturday Oct 15

Joe and Darin playing the blues at the Stone Face last weekend.

Saturday night October 15 we'll be somewhere in downtown Albuquerque playing at the Alibi Fall Crawl. There will be lots (over 100!) of other local bands to see before and after our set. As soon as the Alibi lets us know the time and venue we'll post that info on this Blog.

Last weekend turned into a blues meltdown at the Stone Face. We played to great crowds both nights. Thanks to everyone that came out to share a little blues and whiskey with us. Saturday night a full on, lederhosen wearing, 13 piece polka band played a set before we went on. They played all the standard polka band stuff, but they also did some pretty swinging big band tunes.

Gigs This Week: Friday Oct. 7 and Saturday Oct. 8

This week we'll play Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 7 & 8) at the Stone Face Tavern. The show starts at 9:00 and there's never a cover charge at the Stone Face. For the few of you that don't know, the Stone Face is just north of Paseo del Norte on San Pedro Blvd.
The Alibi Fall Crawl (Oct 15) is one of the best music events of the year. Well over 100 local bands will play in the bars and streets of downtown Albuquerque all night long. Of course The P.Tails are going to play somewhere during the Crawl but the folks at the Alibi are still working on the schedule so we don't know where and when yet. As soon as we find out we'll post the info here.
Thanks to everyone who came out last Friday to see us at The District. It was one of the first times we'd played there and we had a great time. Look for more dates there in the near future.
